Each colour shows only its own photos
Pick Navy and the gallery shows the navy photos, followed by shared ones like a size chart. Other colours stay hidden until they’re picked, like on Amazon.
Shopify app · Free
Shoppers pick Navy and see the navy photos, not a mix of every colour. A Gen Swatches arranges your variant photos for you, and turns colours into Shopify’s own swatches across your catalogue.
Example product
Scrub jacket
Colour: Navy
Pick a colour: only its photos show, then the shared size chart.
Other variant image apps charge monthly and make you tag photos. A Gen Swatches arranges them for you, and it’s free.
Tested on real apparel: 17 colours, 12 sizes and 100 photos per product.

The app works out which photo belongs to which colour from your variant images, gallery order, file names and the colours in the photos. You check it and switch it on.
Select products and choose Arrange and switch on. Products the app is sure about go live; the rest wait in Needs a look with the doubtful photos highlighted.
Two colours pointing at the same photo, or a run of photos no variant uses: the app notices, fixes it and tells you, so shoppers never see the wrong colour.
Colours are filled in from their names (Navy, Burgundy, Heather Grey…) and linked to Shopify’s native swatches across many products in one go. They also power colour filters.
For patterns and fabrics, pick the variant’s own photo, crop it to the fabric, and use it as the swatch. Or choose from your files, or upload.
The theme’s own gallery and picker are kept, so zoom, sliders, video and checkout behave as before. Themes without swatch support get swatch chips automatically.
A Variant images block on the product page, and Group variant images in the Products list’s More actions. Arrange without opening the app.
Saving sets each variant’s main photo and groups the gallery by colour in Shopify too, so cart, checkout and Google Shopping show the right photo.
The app brings in your products and arranges their photos in the background straight away.
Select products and choose Arrange and switch on. Check the few the app flags, by dragging photos or pressing a number key.
Colours are filled in from their names. Check them, add images for patterns, and link your products.
Each variant’s main photo starts its colour’s group, and the photos after it in your gallery usually belong to it. The app checks that against file names and the colours in each photo, and if your gallery is in no particular order it relies on the colours alone. Anything it isn’t sure about is shown to you instead of going live.

Yes. Image groups, bulk arranging, native swatches and image swatches are free, with no product limits and no paid plans.
No. The app uses what’s already there: each variant’s main photo, the order of your gallery, file names when they help, and the colours in the photos. Alt text is used if you have it, but you don’t need it.
Products it isn’t sure about are never switched on automatically. They wait in Needs a look with the doubtful photos highlighted; drag them to the right colour, or select several and press a number key.
Online Store 2.0 themes such as Dawn and Horizon, and older themes too. It works with the theme’s own gallery rather than replacing it. Dawn 15 and later show Shopify’s swatches by themselves; for other themes the app draws swatch chips.
Nothing is deleted or re-uploaded. Each variant’s main photo is set to the first photo of its colour, and the gallery is ordered by colour. You can switch image groups off at any time.
No server calls on page view: the groups and swatches are saved in your store and read by the theme. The scripts are a few KB and only load on product pages that need them.
Galleries go back to showing every photo. Your variant photos and gallery order stay as they are, and Shopify swatches you linked stay on your products. We delete the app’s data 48 hours after uninstall.
